Nedlands Select New Director of Junior Coaching for 2019

Nedlands Rugby Club is delighted to announce the appointment of coaching legend Tom Fearn as the Director of Junior Coaching for 2019. Fearn’s appointment is a key part of the club’s junior development strategy.

Fearn is a professional coach with one of the most successful playing and coaching resumes in WA.

As a previous Nedlands player, Fearn won a record six premier grade flags and represented WA against the All Blacks, Lions, Springboks and Wales.
As a club coach, Fearn won six premierships for Nedlands and Wests  Scarborough before being appointed an inaugural assistant coach of the Emirates Western Force.

He later spent several years coaching professionally in Japan before returning to Perth, where his most recent success included coaching the Nedlands Under-14s to victory at the international Centaurs Rugby 10s tournament in Singapore.

Fearn’s efforts for the club were rewarded with a Life Membership at Nedlands Rugby Club in 2017.

Nedlands Junior President Dave Round said he was delighted to have someone of Tom’s experience, reputation and enthusiasm to take on the important role of Director of Junior Coaching.

“Tom’s coaching record is second to none and the Neddies Juniors are extremely excited to have him on board for 2019.”

“In his new role, Tom will be conducting structured coaching seminars for our junior players, with an emphasis on skills development and position-specific tuition, starting very early in the pre-season. Importantly, Tom will also be conducting ‘coach-the-coaches’ seminars to continue the development of all our junior coaches at Neddies.”

“We believe Tom’s appointment will be a key point of difference for Neddies and a very important part of our junior development strategy.”

In addition to his role as Director of Junior Coaching, Tom will also coach the Under-15s side at the club in 2019.
