Prince to lead the Goats into Premier Grade

Former Wests Scarborough Coach Daryl Prince has been selected by Curtin University Rugby Club to coach their top side as they enter back into the Fortescue Premier Grade since 1974.

Prior to his appointment Prince mentored the reserve grade side at Wests, finding ample success with the team making finals in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Originally moving to Perth from country New South Wales in the early 90s Prince linked up with Wests Scarborough Rugby Club where he acted in a player/coach role for the club until 2004 when family commitments took him to the Gold Coast.

Still playing and coaching during his time over east Prince spent four years playing for Palm Beach until moving into a coaching role back in Griffith in country NSW.

Eventually Prince returned to Perth and restarted his coaching role with the Wests Reserve Grade side leading them through a very successful few years as they made a big contribution to their Premier Grade side winning back to back titles in 2016 and 2017.

Now with Curtin Uni Rugby Club, Prince has a huge task ahead of him as he leads the team into the Premier Grade Competition for the first time since the 70s.

Previously having two sides in RugbyWA’s Community Grade competition Curtin were very successful in the comp with their top side finishing second and their second team finishing 11th in the 2018 season.

Curtin’s entry into the Premier Grade competition can be attributed to their recent rise in participation numbers being able to field a Premier, Community and Women’s team in 2019.

Prince explained he was excited to take on the challenge at Curtin Uni looking forward to see what they can achieve now playing at the top level.

“I’d like to thank the club for the opportunity, I am looking forward to getting to know the group and helping them develop into a strong premier grade club as well as developing a strong culture among the players.”

“I’d also like to thank the coaches, players and committee over at Wests for my involvement in the coaching group over the last four years, being able to learn and develop in such a successful and professional group has been a pleasure.”

Curtin Uni have commenced their Pre-Season training at Edinburgh Oval (in front of Curtin Uni Stadium), training every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 pm. All players are welcome.
